Pakistan’s World Cup loss leaves locals in sorrow

By mid-morning, things were pretty quiet in front of the big-screen TV in the Stoney Creek basement.

"We are struggling," offered the senior member of the viewing party.

It was a generous assessment. With time running out in the World Cup of cricket semifinal – only the biggest game in the history of time – Pakistan was way behind India with few ends left to make up the ground. The reality of the situation wasn't exactly comfortable for the eight friends who'd taken the day off work then gathered at 4:30 a.m. to sip salty pink tea and watch what they hoped would be their country's biggest moment.
